Terms of Service

Last updated 11 September 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and us for using The Way of Life. We have tried to keep them readable rather than impenetrable.

The Way of Life is provided by THEWAYOFLIFE LTD (company number 17385267), registered in England and Wales – "we" or "us". By using the app you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

1. The short version

2. What The Way of Life is – and is not

The Way of Life is a self-reflection and journaling tool. It helps you notice patterns in your own life and set intentions.

It is not a medical device, and it is not therapy.

The Way of Life does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any medical or psychological condition. The reflections it generates are AI-produced prompts for your own thinking, not clinical advice, and no qualified professional reviews them. It is not a substitute for professional mental health care, and it is not a crisis service.

If you are in crisis or at risk of harming yourself, contact emergency services or a crisis line immediately. In the UK, call 999 for a life-threatening emergency only, or 101 for non-emergency police help. You can also call Samaritans free on 116 123 at any hour, or text SHOUT to 85258. Do not rely on this app in an emergency.

Always seek the advice of a qualified health provider with any questions about a medical or mental health condition. Never disregard professional advice, or delay seeking it, because of something you read in this app.

3. Your account

4. Your content

You own what you write. We claim no ownership over your reflections, journal entries or any other content you create.

You grant us only the narrow licence needed to actually run the service: to store your content, display it back to you, and transmit it to the AI providers listed in our Privacy Policy so they can generate reflections for you. That licence exists solely to operate the app for you, and it ends when you delete your content. We do not use your content to train AI models, and neither do our providers.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms, and we will tell you why where we lawfully can.

6. Free and paid features

The Way of Life is free to download, and its core features – your wheel, daily and weekly check-ins, intentions and journal – are free to use permanently, with no subscription required.

AI-generated features cost us money each time they run, so they come in two forms. Some are available to everyone within an allowance that resets daily or monthly – reflections, the Intention Companion, guided Explore sessions, and Go Deeper on a reflection or on an area of your wheel – and a paid subscription raises those allowances. Others are available only with a subscription: monthly, quarterly and yearly reflections, Dynamic Patterns, and adding or editing your own Values and Memories (without a subscription these are derived for you but cannot be written by you). It is one subscription covering all of it, not a separate purchase per feature. The current allowances and what a subscription includes are listed in the app under Subscription, and we may adjust the numbers over time. Declining to subscribe never removes access to the core features or to anything you have already written.

7. Subscriptions, billing and cancellation

8. Patronage contributions

The app may offer optional one-off contributions supporting its continued development. These are voluntary, are not donations to a registered charity, are not tax-deductible, and grant no additional features, ownership or rights. They are generally non-refundable except where the law or the relevant app store's policy requires otherwise.

9. Refunds

Because purchases are processed by Apple and Google, refunds are handled under their policies and must be requested through them. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer under UK law.

10. Availability

We aim to keep The Way of Life running reliably, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. We may modify, suspend or discontinue features. If we discontinue the service entirely, we will give reasonable notice and an opportunity to export your data.

11. Limitation of liability

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited – including your statutory rights as a consumer.

Subject to that: the service is provided "as is"; we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for any decision you make in reliance on an AI-generated reflection; and our total liability to you in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in that period, or £50.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects your rights, we will notify you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use the app after that constitutes acceptance.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you may bring proceedings in your own jurisdiction.
